Scholarships and grants for doctoral studies

You can find information on several funding resources to support you in your doctoral studies. This information is updated and maintained by the UPC Research Employment Advice and Support Unit (information in Catalan language). There are various types of funding sources:

  • UPC grants. There are two types of doctoral grants:
    • General grants. Look for information under title "Beques Generals"
    • Specific grants funded by particular research groups. Look for information under "Específiques"
  • Externally funded grants. Various types of grants and aids funded by external institutions:
    • Generalitat de Catalunya
    • Spanish Ministries of Economy and Education

Grants specific to the Program

Grants for publication expenses:
Conditioned to the available budget, the Electronic Engineering Department in UPC opens a yearly call for grants to cover the expenses generated by publications in journals and international congresses. Please check using your UPC credentials the conditions of the current call (currently closed, to be announced).
The most important points are:
  • Papers accepted in a Q1 or Q2 journals, or in a "congrés notable" Conference may be awarded a maximum of 500 €.
  • The first author must be a registered PhD student in one of the programs participated by the Department, and the affiliation displayed in the paper, that of the UPC.
  • The grants will be made available as an increment in the UPC account of the thesis advisor's research group.
  • In this call, the eligible papers are those accepted between dates 1-6-2020 and 1-10-2020.

Grants for the expenses of the Thesis Examination Panel:

Since 2015, the research vice-dean of UPC funds the expenses generated by the evaluation committee with an upper limit of 300€. For "Menció International" this limit will be up to 600€. In addition, the Department of Electronic Engineering will fund up to a limit of 500€ additional travel and accommodation expenses of the examination panel (resolution approved by the Department Council, 6/03/2019). In the case of "Menció Internacional", there will be a 50% co-funding of expenses above the standard limit (600€ from UPC plus 500€ from DEE.)
