Admission requirements

Canditates to be admitted to this PhD Program must fall in one of the following cases:
  • Being in possession of official Spanish degrees of Grado and Master.
  • Being in possession of a Master's degree (MSc) issued in a country the EHEA (European Higher Education), or other foreign educational systems, that attests a level of education equivalent to the Spanish official title of Master's Degree, and that enables access to doctoral studies in the country that issued such Master degreee.
  • Being in possession of other degrees, obtained in the EHEA (European Higher Education), or other foreign educational systems, that attests a level of education equivalent to the Spanish official title of Master's Degree, and that enables access to doctoral studies in the country that issued such Master degreee.
  • Being in possession of an official Spanish Engineering or Licenciado degree (5-year).
  • Being in possession of an official Spanish university degree or other member country of the EHEA (European Higher Education Area) that qualifies for admission to the Master in accordance with Spanish law (this includes engineering, bachelor), who have passed a minimum of 300 ECTS in all official university courses, of which at least 60 ECTS must belong to Master degrees.
  • Being in possession of another Spanish title of doctor.
In any of these cases, de degrees attested to enter the PhD program in Electronic Engineering will be in the area of ICT, engineering, or sciences related to any of the research activities of this doctoral program.

In addition to the conditions related to the degree that enables acces to the doctorate, candidates for admission to this Program must meet the following requirements:

  • Capacity of understanding and communication, oral and written, in English (level B2), accredited either through personal interviews or through official certificates (Cambridge, TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, EOI).
  • Having a professor of the Program who values positively the skills and motivation of the candidate, and who accepts to act as a tutor who advices on the start of a PhD in one of the thematic areas of the Programme. The candidate may contact the Program management for assistance or advice in this step.

For students who want to enroll in the PhD Program at UPC, the entire process is done online through the website https://preinscripcio.upc.edu/. Follow the steps in the Quick Start Guide to fill your request. Be sure to select 'Electronic Engineering' in the list of doctoral degrees. You must also have the following documents ready to attach to your application:

  • Scanned copy of your degree(s).
  • Academic records of your degree(s).
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Letter from the home university stating that the qualifications obtained by the student entitle to apply for admission to a doctoral degree in that country (only for Master degrees out of the EEES system).

Upon receipt, each application is reviewed by the Academic Committee of the Doctorate Program (CAPD). Normally you should receive a response within a few days, either to amend the application, in case some data or document is missing, or to inform you that your application has been validated, in case the documentation is correct and meets the conditions of access. The final decision on the admission application will be issued ad soon as the CAPD meets.
